HOW YOU CAN HELP

The PAKT Foundation encourages the public to find a legitimate 501(c)(3) in your area and contact them to ask specifically how you can help. Each facility will have different needs and insurance limitations.

The animal rescue community is entirely dependant on financial contributions from the public. Most of these organizations do not have the time or the marketing and fundraising expertise required to manage their facilities or resources. Many cannot afford to hire professional grantwriters on a full or even a part time basis. There is no government subsidization available. In many cases, these facilities and organizations are not receiving support from local business or corporate sponsorship. While cash donations are always needed, there are other ways to help.

Most of their staffs are 100% volunteer based. Volunteerism can come in many ways. If you have professional skills in the following areas and are able to donate your time, these groups can use your help.

Grantwriting, Letter Writing, Fundraising, Event Planning,Telemarketing, Corporate Sponsorship, Computer Skills, Veterinary/Farrier Skills, Animal Husbandry, Carpentry, Fence Repair, Groundskeeping, Auto/Equipment Repair, Groomers, Walkers, Cuddlers, Cage, Stall, Barn and Pen Cleaners.

In alot of cases, automobiles are broken down or barely running. If you have a vehicle or trailer to donate, they would be put to good use.

If you are a local business owner and have "distressed inventory", which would include; feed, blankets, medical supplies, household goods, fax machines, computers, outdated or discontinued products, pet toys, baby bottles, etc. they could use the donations.

If you are involved in the media, complementary classified advertisements, advertising space and story ideas would most helpful..

If you are an organization or school that works with children in the following categories, "kids at risk", therapeutic organizations, boys and girls clubs, scouts, after school and summer programs, please contact a local facility for their individual activities. Alot of sanctuaries have tour days and educational activities on site. In some cases, there are on site sleeping accomodations or nearby hotels/motels that will have promotional rates for guests of the facilities, be sure and check prior to booking.

If you are working within a corporation and are able to help with employee volunteer programs or employee donor matching programs, please consider the animal rescue community as a worthwhile cause.

If you are a travel agent, why not suggest visiting a sanctuary as a family vacation?

If you have excess airmiles, hotel credit, timeshare weeks, those could be put to good use. In many cases, animals must be relocated or transported at a moments notice, straining resources further.

Need ideas for a childrens birthday party? Why not designate it a compassionate party, whereas the local sanctuary/shelter becomes the beneficiary. For more information on how you can plan a compassionate birthday party for your child, please visit Liz Nicholas.
